Kenya & Tanzania
Why choose Kenya?
Breathtakingly beautiful country including the great plains of the Masai Mara with its annual wildebeest migration, Rift Valley lakes full of waterbirds and semi desert regions such as Samburu and Lake Turkana.

Why choose to safari in Kenya?
Kenya has some of Africa's most amazing scenery with lakes, volcanoes, immense grassy plains and a beautiful coastline. If you go between July and September you can see the world's greatest wildlife migration in the Masai Mara. You can meet the Maasai and other tribes if you wish and learn about the local culture. You can choose the more remote and adventurous fly-in route or the traditional vehicle-based.
Traditional Vehicle Safaris
For many years Kenya has perfected the land rover and minibus safari. We recommend private vehicle safaris where you have sole use of the vehicle and an expert guide who is guaranteed to be highly experienced and a good companion. You can explore the country, passing through magnificent scenery and using your vehicle for personal night or day game drives as well.
Vehicle safaris of this kind are often between seven to ten days exploring three different parts of the country.
Fly-in Safaris
Some superb small safari lodges, bush homes and camps in recent years have opened in remote and beautiful areas, accessible via light aircraft. Some of our favorites include Ol Malo, in Northern Kenya in the Laikipia region, where as guests of the Francombs you have the opportunity to go out by camel or walking with the Samburu, or at Loisaba where after a night at the main lodge, you even an opportunity to sleep out one night at a Starbed. Campi Ya Kanzi, between Tsavo National Park Amboseli is run by an Italian couple whose daughter has grown up in the bush together with the Masai who help run the lodge, and between Masai led walks to the base of Mount Kiliimanjaro and fine candle-lit dinners of home made fresh pasta, risotto coupled with wines the couple imports from their own vineyard in Italy, the experience in unmatched. Elsa's Kopje, the only safari lodge in the entire Meru National Park set on a huge granite outcrop, has thatched cottages with each having spectacular views for a dozen miles across virgin territory. Shompole is perched on the edge of the Rift Valley close to Lake Natron where vast flocks of flamingos come to breed and where you can walk with scarlet clad Masai, tracking wildlife through rich dense rainforest.
Coast of Kenya
Kenya's coastline is home to some of the most idyllic hideaways such as Kiwayu which lies seventy miles north of Lamu on mile after mile of deserted beach, or Funzi Keys which has its own private island. Two of our favorities are Princess Caroline’s Beach House in Lamu, and Alfajiri Villas, near Mombasa.
Just south of the equator, the sheer size of Kenya and Tanzania means that the climate varies considerably within it. The best time to go is traditionally July - February. The classic safari time is from July to September, as this is when the Mara provides one of nature's most dramatic spectacles, the annual migration of over a million wildebeest and zebras, teeming from the south to cross the Mara river into the Masai Mara National Reserve.
June to late September is the long dry season when rainfall is unusual, even on the islands. Temperatures vary hugely with altitude and location, but it's usually a fine, clear sky and sunny weather – and a great time to visit East Africa. During November and December there's another rainy season: the 'short rains'. These are much lighter than the main rains and less reliable.
If it has rained during the short rains, then it normally dries up for a few months in January and February, which is the 'short dry season' and game congregates around water sources in parks, making it easier to spot.
Then it starts to rain again in March through May. Afternoon tropical downpours are the norm – which are heavier and more predictable beside the coast and on the islands. There are less tourists, and accommodation prices are much less expensive. Rains generally don’t affect your ability to get around as most roads are good, if you stay on the main roads in the parks..

Why choose Tanzania?
Any avid safari goer will tell you that you must visit Tanzania some time in your life!

Any avid safari goer will tell you that you must visit Tanzania some time in your life. The far stretching plains of the Serengeti with its annual wildebeest and zebra migration, the 8,000 feet high Ngorongoro Crater and the snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro are the epitome of Africa. Smaller national parks such as Tarangire, with its baobab trees and sparkling rivers, or far off Katavi in Western Tanzania, are also worth a visit.

Why choose to take a Safari in Northern Tanzania?
Northern Tanzania fulfills your every dream of what Africa is really like. The imposing plains and volcanic scenery, the infinite roaming herds, and groups of scarlet-clad Maasai are straight from 'Out of Africa'. Seeing it the Anastasia’s Africa way with an experienced private guide using small luxury camps is infinitely better than a cheaper mass-market minibus package.
Northern Tanzania is best seen by private land lover, giving you flexibility to go wherever you wish, when you wish. You will have a highly experienced private guide and will stay in very restful luxury camps, mobile tented camps and safari lodges.
We can arrange to have a comfortable private camp set up wherever the heart of the wildebeest migration is. We also have special access to large private reserves neighboring the Serengeti where you can enjoy night drives and walking safaris.
Visits to northern Tanzania combine easily with Zanzibar and Kenya would usually last from five to nine days.
Zanzibar is fascinating and you should not miss the Old Stone Town having a thousand year history, while on the east and northern coasts there are golden beaches and some intriguing islands with excellent diving and snorkeling.
Why choose to take a Safari in Southern and Western Tanzania?
For the seasoned adventurers, Southern and Western Tanzania offers Ruaha, Katavi and more...the most remote and least visited game reserves in Africa, yet they are also some of the most beautiful and exciting. These areas, in particular Katavi, rarely visited by tourists but magnificent in its solitude is situated close to Lake Tanganyika. Close by and on the lake is Mahale National Park, home of the Chimpanzees and other primates. Activities include a walk with the chimps, lazing around on the sandy beach, fishing or snorkeling and sun-bathing.
These are all 'fly-in' safaris where you can enjoy drives by open vehicle, walking, boating and night drives with a spotlight.

Northern Tanzania can be visited all year round and, while there is more chance of rain between April and June, these times can also provide very rewarding game viewing in dramatic scenery. Tanzania follows similar patterns as in Kenya and can be reviewed above.All_Itins/Entries/2009/2/9_Tanzania_Mobile_Tented_Luxury.htmlshapeimage_4_link_0
